My Sister's Wedding

Everyone knows how much time and effort it takes to pull off a big wedding. There's always some kind of glitch and one can only hope that it's a minor one that can be overcome. Luckily, we had some notice about the glitch for our event. I get a phone call from my mom on Thursday, telling me that no one (the wedding coordinator, his secretary, the wholesaler he bought flowers from, etc.) has been able to get a hold of the florist, Alan Welder, since Sunday. We talk for a moment so I have the story, which isn't much, and I drive over to the warehouse where he works off of Avenida Encinas in Carlsbad to see if I can find out anything. I walk in and see the man who had alerted the wedding coordinator that something was wrong, standing there talking to a few of his co-workers. He proceeds to inform me that yes, Alan is missing, no one has been able to get a hold of him, and no, he most likely did not take the money and leave. He had ordered and paid for most of the flowers, and something was seriously wrong for him to not be at work. I was advised to speak with another florist, also a friend of Alan's, who would be able to come in and try to fill the order the best she could. She would have one day to pull a gigantic order of arrangements and bouquets. It would have been a lot different if no one had known that the florist was missing until Saturday before the wedding. I felt very thankful that we had known at least a little bit ahead of time, and that there were people who were willing to help make it happen. The people at the warehouse were extremely caring and nice and were all very concerned about their co-worker and friend. As far as I know, Alan is still missing and hasn't been heard from.

After that stressful day on Thursday, the rehearsal dinner on Friday was a little more relaxed. Of course it was complete chaos, otherwise it wouldn't have been a wedding rehearsal, but having a wonderful dinner afterwards was really nice. Here are the boys for the rehearsal dinner.

Rehearsal 8-14-09 (3)

I'll admit, I've been waiting for an excuse to put them in suits. It's just so fun! They did a wonderful job and I was very proud of them. Saturday was the big day and here I am all ready.

Wedding Day 8-15-09 (134)

The reception was beautiful, classy, and whole lot of fun. It turns out that Son #1 is quite the dancer. We watch So You Think You Can Dance, and he had picked up a couple of moves from the street dancers.

Later on he ended up busting a move on the stage with the band! Everyone thought it was so cute and were all taking pictures of him.

Wedding Day 8-15-09 (213)

It ended and everyone went back to a few rooms for the after party. The next day we loaded up their loot in the cars and drove to their house for the gift opening. They received many nice things and are definitely ready for their married life together.

The shawl made it through the whole weekend with no mishaps. It didn't get lost, snagged, ripped or anything else. :)

It's Tuesday and I'm still recovering from the weekend. I'm hoping to feel back to normal by tomorrow and get back on my routine. This Saturday is my 12th wedding anniversary but after this last weekend we're going to keep it low-key. I'm thinking about dropping the boys off with nana and having some time alone with each other. That would be a perfect way to celebrate for me!

The shawl looked great "in action" and I'm glad to hear it survived the event. The boys are just too adorable in their suits! :)

Wow, I can remember when you bought the yarn for the shawl at stitches and you told me it was going to be for your sister's wedding! And there you are! Looks amazing!

I missed this when you posted it, so I'm just getting to it now. First, gorgeous wedding! You look fantastic, and the boys are beyond adorable. Second, what day is your wedding anniversary? Mine is August 24, which I think works out to right around when yours would be!
