How to send love

A friend, and a mom in my son's class recently gave birth to a still baby boy. While initially processing the shock and grief I knitted a shawl for her.

After Hours Shawl (3)

It turns out, the knitting wasn't the hard part. I needed to attach a card. What do you say to a mother going through this? I sat down and after a long while, was able to say what was in my heart.

Dear Heidi,

May this shawl keep you warm on the inside as well as on the outside. It also works as a tear-catcher, as I found out while I knitted it for you and your little Bodhi James. Each stitch was made with love in my heart for you and your family. May it also give you strength to carry on and remind you of the love that surrounds you.

Love,
Kelie

Both the shawl and your sentiments are beautiful. I'm so sorry for your friend's loss.

Wow. Both the note and the shawl are beautiful. It's hard to imagine such a loss.
